PRG media & news:

On Sunday oct 30th, we will be in the Kitsap sun under the life section. The Kitsap Sun approached us for an interview because we are the only group in the area that does what we do and Halloween is coming.

The paranormal in action.

These are just a few clips of what we captured on our May 28th investigation at the old Big Boulder creek mining camp in Roslyn Wash, in one of the cabins.

Team Member David C. Foster, CPI, shares his haunted lamps story.

It was exactly 2am when I awoke sitting straight up in bed to the sound of a huge crashing noise, it sounded like every pot, pan, plate and piece of silverware were suddenly thrown across the living room. This lasted for several seconds before it stopped and that’s when I noticed how incredibly cold it was and felt the overwhelming presence of hate and my own heart gripping fear.

In my 54 years I’ve had many encounters with what people call ghost or spirits and have had the ability to see what they now call shadow people, but I called them that myself for lack of another term 43 years ago. But this encounter is about a type of haunting I had never heard of and one that is hard to find any good information on. This is called a “Haunted Item”, where the spirit of its former owner refuses to let it go and will follow it anywhere to retrieve it. But not to get off track, this encounter has nothing to do with what things are called, but about the most terrifying encounter I’ve ever had, one that I still think about and the other’s who were involved have never forgotten.

It all started on one of those hot summer days in Ohio back in 1967 when I was invited to go along on a little hunting trip. My parents were acquainted with a man called Wendell, he came around the house quite often and I became good friends with him despite the almost 20 years age difference. One of the things he enjoyed doing on Sunday’s which were a boring day for him was to ride around on the many country roads in the area, most of them just gravel roads with a house every now and then. What he was looking for were empty or abandoned old house’s that were open or unlocked and he would go in and look for things like old newspapers, magazines, bottles or basically anything of interest. He had came over to the house early one Sunday and asked me if I wanted to ride along and look for some old houses, it sounded like fun so off we went for the day.

After riding around for several hours and only finding a couple of empty old houses, that didn’t have anything of interest inside we decided to head on back to my house. While riding back we came across and empty old farmhouse, it was still in pretty good shape but needed paint and lots of repairs. You could tell by looking at it that at one time it was a real show place, the kind that was owned by a very wealthy farmer. We parked the car around the side of the house in case anyone passed by and got curious. After looking all around the house for a way in we finally found a back window unlocked, so we slid it up and in we went. After taking a look around the place we wondered what it must have looked like 50 years ago. The only furniture in the house was a large old leather couch. After finding nothing of interest, we were getting ready to leave when we checked out the last closet on the first floor and discovered two silver or silver-plated gas lamps. They were about two feet tall each and the shades were missing, but they were in great condition. We figured someone would have used these for special occasions or events in the house. Figuring that’s all there was we made our way out and headed home. We never considered this stealing but just removing unused stuff from an abandoned house. We finally got back to my house, grabbed the lamps and went in to show everyone what we had found that day.

After dinner or supper as we called it we all just sat around and talked about the things he had found in other houses until it was time for bed. It was fairly late by then so we decided he should stay the night and sleep on the living room couch. It was around midnight and it was still really hot and humid so sleeping was going to be hard, not knowing how hard it was really going to be before the night was over.

I knew it was still in the mid-eighty’s but the house felt like it was below freezing. Trying to overcome my fear the first thing I thought was that someone had fallen so I got up and checked on my parents and they were still sound asleep and I couldn’t believe anyone could have slept through that noise. I headed for the living room next expecting some sort of disaster with Wendell laid out in the middle of it, but what I found was Wendell sitting straight up on the couch like I had done in bed and he looked just as scared as I was. The room was freezing cold and not a thing was disturbed except him of course. I ask him did you hear that and he just looked at me with eyes as big as saucers and nodded yes. We talked about it and we both heard the same thing and of course we were still freezing and still experiencing the sense of hate and fear. After several minutes the cold started to fade away along with the presences we felt, so he got up and we checked the house inside and out and found nothing so we just sat and talked about it the rest of the night until my father got up at 5am to go the work. He asked us what was going on so we explained what had happened but he just laughed and said it was our imagination.

By now it was about 7am so Wendell got ready to leave. By then we had calmed ourselves down and were thinking maybe there was a natural explanation for it. So he grabbed the Lamps and put them in the trunk of his car and off he went to work, never once thinking the cause of our terrifying experience was the lamps.

A few days later I decided to stop by and visit Wendell and see if we were going out again on Sunday to find old houses. He told me he would probably never do any of that again, especially after what happened that first night and what had been happening afterwards. I ask him to tell me what had been going on and he told me that now the crashing effect was happening every night accompanied by the evil presence and he was really spooked about it. Other things had been happening like the house getting very cold and the lights going on and off and the feeling of always being watched.

A couple of times after this I stopped by his house with my girlfriend to visit and he was gone but we went in anyway because his house was never locked.

On one visit we experienced the house getting very cold and the lights began going on and off so we decided to get out of there. Another time we stopped by and once again experienced the extreme cold and the feeling of being watched along with the presence of hate and fear that filled the house, it was different and more intense. The house felt colder than usual and things started to be moved around. Of course the lights would almost always go out and we noticed what looked like red eyes starring at us out of the darkness. All of this was more than we could stand and virtually ran out of the house.

On another visit I stopped by to see Wendell and ask if he had experienced the strange events lately. To my surprise he said he finally realized the all of the strange things were because of the lamps we had taken. After a long conversation everything became clear and we understood it was the ghost of the former owner that was coming to reclaim their property. And to my real surprise he said he had taken a hammer and smashed the lamps to pieces and buried them on the back part of the property and that since then everything had been normal in the house.

As I read the recount of the events that happened that summer I realize that there is no way I can convey the power of that ghost or spirit and how it was so consumed with making sure no one else used it’s possessions. And more importantly it’s impossible to convey the fear that was experienced during these events, in fact it’s the only paranormal experience I’ve ever had that almost paralyzed me with fear.

So be careful about those antiques you buy or those things you borrow from an empty house because you may get more than you bargained for.

Team Member David C. Foster, CPI, shares his Shadow People story.

My first experience with Shadow People as I called them when I first started to witness the spirits was in the years 1959 through 1964 making me 9 to 14 years old. Every Sunday my aunt and uncle would come over to play cards and leave late in the evening. Before they left we would always go outside about 10PM so the men could chat and smoke, we lived in the country with no streetlights or neighbor’s within a quarter mile. It was at these times I started to see the dark running shadows, in the summer it was usually pitch black when there was no moon but I could see them run out of the darkness running very low to the ground, like a track and field runner coming out of the blocks. They were blacker than black and came one after the other running past us going across the road and out into the fields. I witnessed this countless times but I was the only one who could see them, I would even ask, did you see that but my father, uncle and grandfather would just say “see what”. I used to see them every now and then after that until we moved away from the house in 1967.

So to get to the point of this whole story we jump to the year 1979. I had reenlisted in the Navy and was eventually sent to Norfolk, VA. In the summer of that year I was assigned to an afloat Admirals staff that was stationed aboard the USS Vulcan (AR5). I checked aboard the ship and being a Radioman was taken to the radio shack to check in and get assigned to a duty section to man the 24 hours a day 7 days a week watch bill. While I was talking to the various Chief’s and Officer’s they ask me if I believed in ghost and of course I said yes but I’m not scared of them, it was then they told me that they could only find a couple of sailors willing to stand the Mid-watch (midnight to 8am) because all the others were afraid of the ghost. I didn’t think much of what they said so I volunteered for the Mid-watch five days a week. Before I left for the day to get ready to start the duty on a Monday I spoke to several of the sailors and they said there was no way they would do it and that I’ll change my mind real quick.

I checked in to relieve the watch at 1130pm on a Sunday night, I was the supervisor of the watch and it was the first time to meet the people assigned to me and get a rundown on how the work was handled. Usually on this type of watch there were 6 to 8 people so I was really shocked to find only 3 other sailors besides myself, 2 men and 1 young female (wave) on the watch (women were new to ships at that time). So I assumed the watch and started to talk to my people getting to know them and most of all wanting to know why there were only the 3 of them. Two of them the Wave being one said I would find out and continued to explain the strange things that go on at night, the third person said he never hears or sees’ anything. I listened to them and said well let’s get to work and forgot about it. Everything went as expected until exactly 2am, that’s when I started hearing voices in the adjoining room (compartment) there was no door but just a black canvas curtain that was pulled back. Everyone was in the same room as me and no one else could come in with out me knowing it (it was a classified space) so I walked over and stood in the doorway to listen and the Wave joined me. I ask her if she could hear the voices and she said they do it every night at 2 o’clock, you could plainly hear two people talking to each other but could not understand the words it was a kind of murmur. I walked around the room but it didn’t stop for about 15 minutes. The Wave said all kinds of things happen and she was kind of happy I could hear it to; after it stopped we talked about it a few minutes and went back to work. After about 15 to 30 minutes I was sitting at my desk and started seeing something out of the corner of my eye in the doorway of the same room we heard the voices but whenever I would look up there was nothing there. This went on for quite some time until I looked up and saw what could only be described as a shadow standing in the doorway, full human size and just staring at me, I saw it for just a second then it turned and vanished. I quickly went into the room to check it out but found nothing so I went back to work. This same pattern went on for the next 2 or 3 hours I’d see it and it would turn and vanish, it didn’t seem to move or duck behind the doorway it just seemed to turn sideways and vanish. This was the normal pattern night after night; sometimes it would stand and stare for 5 or 10 seconds then vanish. There were many many other strange events that happened over the course of the eight months I stood that watch, the wave and I could see and hear the same things and it was always busy messing with our communications gear, turning knobs, pulling out patch cords and on a few occasions we saw the shadow walk up and down behind equipment racks and sometimes the place would get so cold we could hardly stand it.

I could go on and explain all of the separate events but this was the basic night voices’ at 2am then the shadow people watching and sometimes moving, equipment constantly messed with. To say the least it was a very interesting time in my life.
