Among the speakers are Marilyn Kallshian of Central United Methodist Church, Elinor Nakis, Consuelo Guandique, and those who have stood vigil with him at the courthouse: Bud Meyer, John Knudsen, Jim Johnson, Marilyn Kinney, Ginny Darvill, Irma Bode, and John, the peace wizard. Sunday, May 1 is the 24th Annual Farmworkers Solidarity March. Jerry won't be out of the hospital, so the call has gone out to those who know him to join the march for him. Meet at Maiben Park in Burlington at 10:30 AM. March to Skagit Valley College's Pavilion where a meal will be served and a speakers will make presentations.

Anticipating Growth in the Skagit Valley - April 13, 2011 Seattle architect Bill Kreager, presenter of "Honey I Shrunk the Lots," joins Ginny for this 1/2 hour interview about how "compact development" can address population growth in Skagit County without destroying the rural and small town character of the valley. In an introduction to the concept of "New Urbanism," he also addresses the social, economic, and ecologic benefits of living closer together. Bill Kreager offers specific recommendations to overcome such obstacles to compact development as fear of "the Uglies," and archaic zoning codes.

A Different Mount Vernon, WA - September 9,2009 Mount Vernon, Washington has been in the news recently ? gaining notoriety for bringing a "native son" to town to receive a key to the city and have a day named after him, Glenn Beck Day. Today we talk with residents in Skagit County about why this is happening and to give a different view, a local spin, of the town in rural Skagit County an hour north of Seattle. Paul Cienfuegos: Challenging Corporate Power - August 12,2009 This interview was conducted and produced by Stephanie Potter for "Recovery Zone" on KBOO radio in Portland. Paul Cienfuegos believes that the rights and privileges of "corporate personhood" can be challenged by citizens in their local communities. He gives workshops and lectures training people how to confront this fundamental basis for corporate power, as a more effective way of addressing corporate harms than doing "damage control" through regulation. In this fascinating interview, Paul traces the history which redefined corporations as "persons" and discusses how local communities in this country have successfully challenged this concept.
