Public Comments on Cherry Point Coal Terminal - What's Next? - January 30, 2013

Matt Krogh, North Sound Baykeeper with Re-Sources for a Sustainable Community in Bellingham; and Beth Doglio, Campaign Director for both Climate Solutions in Seattle and for the regional Power Past Coal Campaign, join Ginny Wolff for today's show. This is an update on efforts to stop the Gateway Pacific Terminal - the coal export facility proposed at Cherry Point.

Matt and Beth share their perspectives on what happened in the recently concluded Scoping Period for the Environmental Impact Statement process mandated by law for this project. "Scoping" was a four month period when the public spoke up with concerns about the proposal. Matt and Beth describe the unprecedented volume and quality of comments submitted by the public. They also discuss where their respective organizations will focusing their efforts in the weeks and months to come.

MV City Council to hear Coal Transportation Concerns - September 5, 2012

Ross Macfarlane is Senior Advisor, Business Partnerships for Climate Solutions. He will present to the MV City Council on Wed. Sept 19 at 6 pm. The session is open to the public. Ross did this interview with Ginny In April, 2012. Mr. Macfarlane will focus on the transportation issues and costs Skagit County would face should the Gateway Pacific Terminal be built.

Climate Solutions Addresses Coal Export - April 11, 2012

Ginny Wolff speaks with Ross Macfarlane, Sr. Advisor for Climate Solutions, about coal export in Washington and Oregon, particularly the terminal proposed at Cherry Point, north of Bellingham. Ross explains the mission of the non-profit organization - Climate Solutions, Practical Solutions to Global Warming - and why they have taken on this issue. He also explains how people can be involved in the Environment Review process for this proposal which is approaching, and how to participate in the "Scoping" process.

Moral Ground and Climate Change - March 7,2012

Speak Up! Speak Out! explores the moral dimensions of the challenge climate change presents to all of us. Dr. Kathleen Moore, philosopher and nature writer, and Evelyn Adams, one of the founders of Transition Fidalgo and Friends, join Ginny Wolff in our show for March 7. We talk about the mission of Transition Fidalgo and Friends, and discuss the ethics of climate change.

Dr. Kathleen Moore is the featured speaker at an event entitled: "Moral Ground: What Do We Owe the Future?" sponsored by Transition Fidalgo and Friends. This event is on Sunday, March 18, at the Phillip Tarro Theatre on the Skagit Valley College campus at 3 pm. Admission is free. Donations accepted.

Addressing the Global Climate Change Crisis Through Art - May 19, 2010

Local artist Lin McJunkin speaks of her passion to "do something" about global climate change" by blending her twin careers as a science educator and glass artist. She is touring the county with her unique presentation: "Artful Persuasion: Artists Helping Scientists Convey Messages of Change," showing artists' responses to the gravest environment challenge of our times in order to inspire, educate, and motivate.

Addressing Global Climate Change, part 2 - July 1, 2009
Local resident Dr. Jerry Whitfield, Cambridge trained PhD, engineer, inventor and pioneer in energy innovations continues the discussion of how we can reduce atmospheric CO2 emissions to the levels necessary to avert devastating climate change. In this show we explore mechanisms that would put a price on carbon emissions, and how that would influence the "mix" of power generation by our electric utilities. Dr. Whitfield concludes the interview by explaining how these changes, coupled with using electricity for transportation would not only lower CO2 emissions to safe levels, but would actually save us all some money.
