Quilt Preparation
For a Professional Finish

  • The quilt backing and batting each need to be a total of 8"-10" larger than the quilt top (4"-5" on each side)

  • Indicate the top of your quilt and backing

  • When seaming the back, seam with a 1/2-inch seam allowance. Press the seams open keeping the edges straight and even

  • If the backing edges are not straight and even, square them up. Remeasure the backing to be sure it is a total of 8"-10" larger than the quilt top

  • To avoid puckering, make sure your top piece and backing have been pressed and the corners are square

  • Clip all hanging and stray threads (if you don't, they may appear as unwanted veins through your quilt)

  • If you will be requesting binding service or a hanging sleeve:

    • please include the fabric needed

    • double check your measurements to make sure you have enough binding to go around the entire quilt plus an additional 20 inches

  • If you provide batting that is in a package:

    • remove the batting from the package a couple of days before the project is to be dropped off

    • unroll and unfold the batting and inspect for any torn sections

    • let the batting "breathe" for a couple of days to help remove the folds

    • then gently fold the batting to a manageable size

    • do not stuff the batting back into the plastic bag, but do bring the plastic bag
